Edward Tunaley

 

b. 1844, Derbyshire.

m. Louisa Vanstone, 25-12-1873, St. Andrews,

Derby.

Edward d. 1916, Chesterfield.

 

 

Following Edward's death 1908, Kate, aged 34 returned with daughter Lilian Kate to Devon, to work for her widowed father, William Vanstone, landlord of the Alpine Inn, 8 Higher Braddons Street, Bishopsteignton, Devon.

Kate worked as William's housekeeper. Her younger sister, Winifred, aged 16 and dressmaker, was still living at the same address.

Bishopsteignton is a picturesque village lying approximately half-way between Newton Abbott and Teignmouth (click here).

Kate a member of the large Devon Vanstone family, of whom Edward's mother. Lucy, was also a member. Kate possibly Lucy's niece.

Kate b. Torquay, Devon, 1876; d. Newton Abbot, 1958, aged 81

 

 

Lilian Kate Tunaley:

b. 8/7/1906, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs. d. 24/3/1977, Torbay.

 

In 1881, Kate's father, William, was aged 30, working as publican at 4, Pimlico Beer House, Tormoham, Devon.. The parish of Tormoham is interesting as it formed part of the Newton Abbot parish and is now part of Torquay (click here).

William was born Bishopsteignton and married to Jane (nee Patterson) b. 1852, Torquay.

1881 Census: aged 3, Edward living at 7 Albert Terrace, Woolborough, Devon.

1891 Census: aged 13, living at 55 Oxford Street, Derby.

1901 Census: living at 7 Park Street, Hanley, Staffs as "Boarder" and occupation "Printer's Manager".

Lilian Kate, Edward's daughter, was born Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, 1906.
