1881 Census:

Alfred: Head of residence at 59, Moore St., Derby. Age: 30 years. Occupation: House Painter.

Married to Elizabeth, aged 27 years. Three childen: Ada aged 6, Albert aged 5, and Frank aged 1. Also resident there is Ellen Fenton, aged 7, and given as Alfred's niece (see below).

1891 Census:

Alfred has moved with his family to Birmingham. Address is now 48, New John St., Birmingham (located close city centre). Given as aged 47 ; occupation Painter and Paperhanger. Four more children: Edwin 9, Henry 5, Amy 3, Ellen aged 3 months and Alfred's niece is now listed as Helen (see above) aged 18. All other children (as given 1881) present. As Edwin is given as born Derby, it appears the move to Birmingham was made in 1891.

1901 Census:

Same as 1891 apart from the following:

Another daughter Florence (b. 1892) and aged 8. Ada and Albert have moved on as has Alfred's niece (Ellen/Helen).
