1851 Census: Thomas, aged 8, living with parents and siblings in St. Alkmunds area of Derby.

1861 Census: Thomas, aged 18, visitor at 33, Clarence St., Hulme. Occupation given as Elastic Web Weaver.

1871 Census: Thomas, aged 28, married to Annie and living in Derby with son "Harry" aged 2 years. Occupation of Thomas: "Silk Weaver".

1881 Census: Thomas, aged 38, now listed as living at 30, Traffic St., Derby and occupation now given as "greengrocer", further evidence, the author suggests, of the collapse of the silk industry. Five children as listed in panel right (up to 1881) given in census.

1891 Census: Annie is not mentioned in census. Meanwhile, Thomas is given as aged 48 living in Shaftesbury St., Derby and occupation Stationary Engine Driver. Frederick, Alice and Hilda are living there, Kate having died 1884.

1901 Census: Thomas and Annie have apparently both died and Hilda, aged 19, is now "Head" of 72, Shaftesbury St. household. Living with her is her sister Alice Hoey (nee Tunaley) and niece Elsie Hoey, aged 1.
