John awarded the British Empire Medal (Civil) 1950. Occupation: Chief Maintenance Electrical Foreman, English Steel Corporation, Openshaw, Manchester.

Author: English Steel Corporation was partly owned by Vickers - suggestion here that John's award was connected with military production during the war - by 1950 John could well have retired.

1901 Census: John listed as Electrical Engineer, living at 262, Palmerston St., Beswick, Manchester. Mother Mary Ann is Head (John Charles having died) along with Edith (aged 22, - Shirt Maker), Tom (aged 19 - carpenter/joiner), Beatrice (aged 17 - Shirt Maker) and James (aged 15 - Office boy).

1911 Census: family living at 92, Edge Lane, Droylsden, nr. Ashton-under-Lyne.
